So we've been spending the past two weeks trying to debug a noise problem in our dye laser. A couple days ago, we finally found the cause: the PZT that moves the tweeter mirror (and thus controls the frequency of the laser) wasn't moving. So we cleaned it, initally thinking it was being shorted by laser dye that had spilled on it. Then we replaced the cable leading to it. After going through all that, today we figured out that the PZT itself needed to be replaced. During this, my advisor was trying to pull the tweeter mirror off of the PZT (it was glued on), and came up with a wonderful idea. He smashed the whole thing with a claw hammer. Here are the results. ;D
